Mission Statement

The Nauset Ecumenical Health Ministry is committed to helping the congregation and the community maintain health and wellness. The philosophy of Parish Nursing incorporates and integrates spiritual values ans the healing of the whole person - Mind, Body and Spirit.

What does a parish nurse do?

1. Functions as a member of the pastoral team, working with the clergy and others on the church staff in many ways.
2. Advocacy/Referral Source - Liason role in connecting people to community resources.
3. Role Model - Promotes the relationship between faith and health. Empowers people to take responsibility for their own health and wellness.
4. Health Educator - Offers health related classes, screenings and information in newsletters ands bulletins.
5. Health Counselor - Discusses personal health issues and makes visits to homes, hospitals and nursing homes as needed.
6. Life Transitions - Guide, support and facilitate you to empower you in the multi-facited transitions of life.
7. Volunteer Coordinator - Helps train and provide support for faith community volunteers.

The Parish Nurse Ministry will need volunteers of all ages, all walks of life, all professionals who would be willing to volunteer their time or talent (as much , or as little as they can give). We need non-professionals, homemakers, laborers, craftsmen, as well as health care workers in all areas. (Doctors, Nurses, Aides, Therapists, Social Workers, Nutritionists, Theraputic Touch etc.) If you are already volunteering in your congregation in your congregation, what do you do? Please fill out the information form so that you may be a referral source or contact person in your church.
